Introduction In the late 1970s, my father owned a house in Salt Lake City, Utah built in 1891. At some point in its life, it had been converted to apartments. Parking was scarce, so the small front yard was scraped away and made ready for a gravel parking area. During the excavation I sifted through the sod and dirt finding Merc dimes, Indian Head pennies, Buffalo nickels, a pearl ring and miscellaneous artifacts. My fever for finding lost and forgotten items had begun. Unfortunately, I never pursued the interest until the summer of 1999. I purchased a Shadow X2 detector, joined a local club in Portland, Oregon, and I have been pursuing my interest ever since. |

My first experience with the club I joined
- the Oregon Treasure Trail Society - was their organized hunt, the
Silver Classic. I wasn't even a member at the time, but I was out there
planting coins and tokens in the fields in 95 degree heat, assisting
with the registration table, handing out prizes, meeting some great
folks - and loving every minute of it! By the next year I was the hunt
chairperson and organizing the Silver Classic with five other club members.
Now, I enjoy traveling during the summer months to some of the great
events hosted by the clubs here in the friendly Pacific Northwest! |
About this Website Organized club hunts are a great way for people to meet friends, new and old, to gather for some fun, prizes, and the sharing of stories. Traveling the circuit is a great pastime for retired members of the detecting community, as well as those families looking for adventures their children can enjoy. There are many organized events scheduled throughout the spring, summer and fall months that can entertain most every detectorist. |
